Job description

We are looking for a Financial Controller with 5+ years of relevant experience in the field of accounting and financial control or auditing, preferable in a project organization. In this role you will be responsible for the complete process of correct invoicing and accounting, providing accurate and comprehensive financial information and will be involved in the preparation of the annual report. This position reports to the CFO and is based in Leiden, The Netherlands

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Responsible for timely month-end close process and quarterly and year-end financial statements for both the Dutch and Belgian operations;
  • Line management of employees with financial operational tasks.
  • Manage relationships with outsourced service providers covering accounting and tax.
  • Develop and maintain a project accounting process in order to allocate and report costs on the companies’ projects, tracking of the actual costs vs. available budgets.
  • Coordinate on group level the annual financial forecasts
  • To ensure appropriate allocation of costs and revenues between group companies
  • To manage the invoicing and accounting processes, map processes and pro-actively initiate improvements;
  • Preparing regular financial analyses, to identify and manage financial risks;
  • Maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, including sufficient internal controls.

Required qualifications:

  • A BSc or Msc degree, preferably in an economic direction. (I would say Msc in Finance)
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a project-based organization.
  • Affinity with the biotechnology business sector
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Dutch-GAAP and Belgian-GAAP (and IFRS)
  • Affinity for IT and IT improvements, excellent knowledge of Excel and Exact (Affinity with IT yes, improvement I would exclude as this is part of tooling roadmap, separate project team)
  • Strong knowledge of English and Dutch, both written and verbal.

You can handle deadlines and you don’t bounce back for changes.
