Job Description

This is a highly collaborative role in the Manufacturing Technology department. You will work in a multidisciplinary, international team of world-class scientists with state-of-the-art knowledge of stem-cell process development, scale-up and manufacture. The goal is to work with multiple project teams and build processes for complex data collection, data processing, data management and data analyses required for robust manufacture of human iPSC-derived functional cells at high quality, at scale.

We place a high value on data science / bioinformatics in our research. The role will be instrumental for successful cell differentiation process development and scale up in client projects. Our clients are companies active in drug development and cell therapy.


  • Robust manufacturing of human iPSC-derived functional cells at high quality, at scale

  • Develop and execute processes and systems for collection, processing, statistical analysis, and reporting of complex data from stem cell biology up to bioprocessing.

  • Improve the efficiency of scientific and operational processes with your data analyses and reports.

  • Link critical process parameters and critical materials to process and final cell product quality attributes, with the aim to improve process and product robustness.

  • Evaluate the quality of data produced by other researchers and propose improvement steps.

  • Ensure that the quality of data is adequate for Technology Transfer and readiness for GMP.

  • Develop and/or execute computer programs and databases for use in bioinformatics research, such as artificial intelligence programs designed to identify patterns in data.

  • Develop and execute analysis workflows.

  • Develop data analytics (pattern recognition, critical quality attribute determination, and critical process parameter determination) to assess design space (build DOE expertise) and develop control strategy for process robustness.

  • Lead data science / bioinformatics tasks, both in house as well as outsourced to service providers.

  • Take ownership of your tasks and collaborations, becoming the main point of contact for all projects you are involved in.

  • You are well-aware of the biological context of projects and can provide biological interpretations of your results to teams with diverse scientific backgrounds.

  • You are responsible for the visualization of complex data, reducing complex problems into intuitive explanations and present this to the project teams.


  • M.Sc. or Ph.D in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or equivalent preparation and experience. Preferably you have two years or more experience in a similar position within industry or as a postdoctoral researcher.

  • You have a strong affinity with cell biology, cell manufacture and scale-up, preferably with stem cells.

  • Experience with the development, optimization of mammalian cell manufacturing processes and process characterization is a plus.

  • You have programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C/C++, R, git) and are experienced in using cloud services for storage and computing.

  • You have experience with applied statistics. Hands-on experience with digital/image/statistical signal processing, relational and time series databases (SQL), modeling, and machine learning are a plus.

  • Experience with version control software, QMS tools and GMP are a strong plus.

  • You are enthusiastic, creative, goal orientated, pro-active and out-of-the-box thinking with a strong ability to work independently.

  • You are experienced in working in a multidisciplinary team. Able to work effectively in a project-based manner. Can liaise between the worlds of computational biology and basic biology and provide biological interpretations of your results to teams with diverse scientific backgrounds.

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and contribute to multiple projects under demanding timelines.

  • Strong problem-solving and excellent communication skills.
